TRANSPORT
Public transport in Melbourne is characterised
by the tram, electric trolley cars that run on rails through
the city and inner suburbs. Melbourne also has trains and
buses servicing all parts of the metropolitan area. The Metcard
ticket can be used for all services.
City Circle Tram is a free service. Trams
travel in both directions in a loop around the central business
district every 10 minutes between 10.00am and 6.00pm.
NightRider buses operate from midnight
on weekends and during special events or festivals. This bus
service has its own tickets.
V/Line operates trains and buses to the
major regional centres as well as interstate services.
Taxis can be hailed from the street, or
engaged at ranks in and around the city. Tipping is not customary.
Driving the suburbs are easily accessed by
major roads and freeways. The main freeways are connected through
