ADELAIDE EDUCATION

Children generally start school at 5 or 6 years old. Schooling is compulsory for children aged 6 to 15.

Government Schools are generally co-educational and charge minimal fees. State high schools are zoned, students must live in the local area to attend.

Private Schools tend to be affiliated with a church, some have long waiting lists and fees vary, but are generally lower than school fees in the eastern states.

Parish Catholic Schools are common in most areas.

Child Care is provided privately and by government subsidised providers. Options include: occasional care programs, family day care, child care centres, early learning programs, play-centres and out of school care programs.
