RENTING
IN BRISBANE
With a number of new apartment developments throughout Brisbane, the rental market is quite good. However, if you prefer to live in a house rather than an apartment, things can be a bit more difficult. Normal lease periods are for 12 months, although in some cases it can be possible to secure a 6 month rental.
In the Inner West and Inner North rents vary from around $300 to $650 per week (pw) for a one bedroom apartment to up to $1000 plus pw for a four bedroom house. Prices are lower as you move further from the city, particularly for larger homes. In the North and West larger houses are between $400 and $1500 pw, with slightly higher costs in Bayside.
The majority of rental properties are unfurnished. If you are not bringing furniture, then renting is an economical solution and there are many furniture rental companies in Brisbane.
We recommend you leave white goods, such as washing machines, and other electrical items at home, as most international appliances are not compatible in Australia. Rental, or inexpensive purchase is better option. Some rental properties, particularly newer apartments, will have white goods already installed.
