RENTING
IN SYDNEY
Sydney has a healthy rental market and you
should be able to find a property to suit you and your family
for your stay, although short term leases of less than 12 months
may be harder to secure.
In the inner city and Lower North Shore rents vary from
around $400 - $640 per week (pw) for a one bedroom apartment,
up to $2000 - $5000 pw for a four bedroom house. Prices
are slightly less in the Northern Beaches and Northern Sydney,
from $350 pw (one bedroom apartment) to $2000 pw (four bedroom
house). Prices in the Western Suburbs are less again.
The majority of rental properties are unfurnished. If you
are not bringing furniture, then furniture rental is an economical
solution. There are many furniture rental companies in
Sydney.
We recommend you leave white goods, such as washing machines,
and other electrical items at home, as most international
appliances are not compatible in Australia. Rental, or inexpensive
purchase is better option.
People on overseas assignments may be entitled to tax concessions
when renting. It is worth consulting an International tax
accountant to advise you before you relocate. |
