SETTLING IN

There are a few simple things you can do to make moving easier you and your family:

Explore your new neighbourhood together.

Accompany your children on their route to school until they want to travel by themselves and walk around the school together to help them find their bearings.

Encourage children to join in after school activities where they can make new friends with similar interests.

Spend quality time together in the new location, maybe join a community group or just go out shopping together each week.

Keep in touch with old friends and where possible, invite them to visit your new home

Even the most well-adjusted of us can have difficulty coping with moving home. It's important to pick up on early warning signs which may include withdrawn behaviour, problems sleeping, difficulty making new friends and reluctance to stray far from the house or family. The first step in to address the problem and talk about it. Where necessary, seek professional advice.
