MOVING WITH PETS
If you are moving pets into Australia from another country, they will need to pass quarantine regulations. If you are using a professional pet transport company, they should be able to advise your responsibilities, or talk to your travel agent.
Before relocating, take your pet to the vet for a check up and arrange for all records to be forwarded. Your vet should also be able to give you good advice on relocating with animals.
If your pets are travelling by plane, ensure the airline fully informs you of your responsibilities, such as vet notices and airport arrival arrangements.
Some cats and dogs find car travel distressing, and some even get car sick. Be prepared to make frequent stops along the way.
Rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, and other smaller pets can easily be transported in your car. To help keep them calm and quiet, cover the cages with a dark cloth. There are special Fish Bags available from pet shops to transport your fish. If you'll need to stop overnight, shop around for a hotel that will allow pets.
Make sure your pet gets plenty of exercise before the trip. Don't feed them too much before leaving and don't sedate them, unless it is absolutely necessary.
