EMERGENCY
Most major hospitals provide 24 hour emergency care where you can obtain general medical care without an appointment at any time.
Hospital emergency care is free to all Medicare Card holders, and is covered by most private health insurance policies.
Ambulance services are available to everyone, however they are not provided free of charge and can be expensive. Some private health insurance policies cover ambulance services or you can subscribe and receive the service without charge, when required.
Except in emergency cases, ambulance transport must be authorised by a doctor or a hospital.
Dial 000 for emergency services, including ambulance, fire brigade and police.
