DENTAL & SPECIALIST HEALTH CARE

Dental health is not covered by the public health system. It is covered by some private health insurance policies. To practise in Australia, dentists must be suitably qualified and registered.

Specialist medical procedures are not usually covered by Medicare, although some essential treatment may be. Generally you will need a referral from a general practitioner (GP) before consulting a specialist.

Most private health insurance policies also require a GP to provide a referral if specialist expenses are to be covered.

WHAT THE LOCALS SAY
I wouldn't know where to start looking for a specialist, but I've always got excellent advice from my GP. She knows me and my family so I can trust she's doing the right thing by us.
