TAX
The tax year in Australia begins on 1st July and runs through to the following 30th June. Generally a system of self-assessment applies and income tax returns should be submitted to the Australian Tax Office.
A 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST) is imposed on most goods and services sold in Australia. This tax is generally included in the advertised price of products, especially consumer goods.
Goods and services exempt from GST include: basic food, including most meat, fruit and vegetables that have not been prepared, exports, most education and health services, eligible child care and nursing home care.
