RENTING IN CANBERRA

With a somewhat transient population of embassy and political staff as well as many students, rental properties are readily available in Canberra and it is relatively easy to rent a good home. Landlords prefer to offer leases for more than twelve months.

Prices for smaller apartments range from $200 upwards per week. Rents for three to four bedroom houses range from $350 upwards per week.

Serviced apartments are fully furnished however the majority of rental properties are unfurnished. If you are not bringing furniture, then renting is an economical solution and there are a number of furniture rental companies in Canberra.

We recommend you leave white goods, such as washing machines, and other electrical items at home, as most international appliances are not compatible in Australia. Rental, or inexpensive purchase is better option.

People on overseas assignments may be entitled to tax concessions when renting. It is worth consulting an international tax accountant to advise you before you relocate.
